I don't know if you remember the activity of "building geek parents" launched by us at the beginning of this year.
Our original intention is to rely on the demonstration of the prototype to help parents learn to use electronic products, so that they can still handle the whole audience even if we are not around.
Now, we are proud to announce that such products have really come out!

A beginning related to ink knife

A product manager with nearly 5 years of working experience, who was responsible for overseas o2o and comic reading products, is now the project leader of "knowing the year".
As mentioned at the beginning, the creative inspiration of our "new year" project comes from participating in the "geek parents" initiated by ink knife. At that time, I was very touched when I saw this theme. I immediately recalled the scene of tutoring parents and elders with mobile phones on holidays.
The functions they need to learn are very simple. Saving mobile phone numbers and deleting text messages can be completed in only 1 or 2 minutes, but they need to wait for a year.
Moreover, no matter how many times you teach, you will still forget the operation.
So I thought, can I have a simple and easy-to-use software that can help them operate or teach them to operate when they need to solve mobile phone problems.
Once a person has an idea, he immediately wants to implement it. I still remember that I called my development partner to communicate the implementation plan until 3 a.m.
Since then, I have determined that what I want to do is not just a prototype, but to really put it on the ground and help those who really need it.
This is the story of the birth of "knowing the year".
Fortunately, in the practical stage, we found that the country is also vigorously advocating, which gave us strong confidence.
However, the reason why I decided to stick to it is what happened in the preliminary research.
At that time, we received such a feedback: "I have been developing Android for 8 years, but I can't teach my parents to install software.".
From then on, I knew I must do well. This is my mission.

Quickly understand "knowing the year"
It took us about four months from conception to project development and then online.
Now "knowing the year" v1 The beta version of 1.0 has been launched in the app store and major Android application markets.
It can realize cross platform remote gesture guidance, remote control (due to system limitations, IOS only supports screen recording function when it is the controlled end), and the quick switch of Android can facilitate parents and elders to set quickly.
In the future, we will also add mobile phone tutorials, health codes and other functions.
In addition to teaching parents to use "knowing the year", we also hope that parents and elders can teach better than others after learning it.
Therefore, we did not split the control end and the controlled end on the client.
This also brings us a problem. There will be some differences in the habits of using software between elders and children. For example, the font of elders should be large, but young people don't like it.
Under comprehensive consideration, we abandoned the design method of large font and large color block, but adopted the card design of different colors, coupled with moderate font, situational illustration and voice broadcasting functions to solve the elders in different situations and facilitate them to use each function.
In addition, touch vibration feedback is added to help elders with sensory degradation feel every step of operation more intuitively.
As for why it is called "knowing the year", we hope that the name can be catchy and convenient for elders to remember.
"Knowing the year" takes the homonym of missing. When using the knowing the year app, it also reposes the missing of family members.
At the same time, "knowledge" represents knowledge, "year" represents age. Learning to use smart phones by parents and elders is like mastering a new knowledge, which is also an indispensable skill in today's society.
We hope that knowledge is never too old to learn, regardless of age.

Knowledge of years and ink knife
"Knowing the year" is closely related to the ink knife.
I'm an old ink knife Er, and I've been a lecturer in the open class of ink knife before. This project is also triggered by ink knife.
The team work is also inseparable from the ink knife. Basically, our prototype design, requirements document annotation and some simple interactions are completed with the ink knife.
Then the UI Designer views the requirements by browsing the prototype, and the subsequent development students will cooperate with the ink knife prototype link to understand the requirements more quickly, so as to work.
Online editing, version management and prototype link sharing are our common functions, which are very convenient and fast.
Therefore, we hope that the first publicity of "knowing the year" can be put on the ink knife, and we also hope to give priority to knife friends to experience "knowing the year".
Because we are all Internet practitioners, it should be a situation faced by most people that we are unable to accompany our parents. Therefore, we want to help you effectively solve the problem of "digital divide" through our own products and improve the happiness and satisfaction of our parents and elders.
