Review of "founder Award" design competition in the past 20 years
On May 23, 2001, at the Beijing International Exhibition Center, in the most difficult time of the industry, with a beautiful longing for the future of font design, the first "founder award of Peking University" printed font design competition launched a solicitation for contributions to the whole society. After that, it was held every two years for 20 years.
Over the past two decades, the founder award has been committed to promoting Chinese character culture, promoting font design innovation, exploring font design talents, strengthening cultural exchanges between China and the west, and promoting the development of the font industry. It has invited 44 experts as judges, a total of more than 15000 authors participated, and received more than 23000 works of different styles. With the joint efforts of previous participants and expert judges, it has become a design competition that has attracted much attention in China.
Over the past two decades, the founder award has closely followed the needs of the times for font aesthetics, constantly explored new font topics, and constantly innovated and reformed the competition content, competition system, selection criteria, etc., witnessing the rise of the Chinese character craze in the design field and the development of the font industry. Entering the brand-new year 2021, we decided to give the founder award more missions: while continuing to search for font masterpieces that can represent the level of the times, we also hope to see designers in different fields make fonts more alive and valuable through subtle applications.
In 2021, the 20th anniversary of the founder award. With a new mission, the 11th founder award design competition officially set up two competition units, font design and font application. Designers and font enthusiasts around the world are sincerely invited to enthusiastically participate, present the beauty of words, and start a new journey of the founder Award.

Famous font designer. Engaged in font design for more than 30 years, and also engaged in graphic design. He studied at the Central Academy of fine arts and is now the design director of Beijing Kangping culture (caulple).
Many of the design works have won prizes in font competitions at home and abroad; The created water column, children's body, fine coral body, felt pen black body, four-and-a-half-year-old body, fan Tianxia body, Peugeot body and other fonts have been adopted by founder font library and have been commercialized. Design concept: "human / font / nature Trinity", committed to the research and creation of "emotional font".
Fujita Chongxin (Japan) famous font Designer
brief introduction
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1957. I graduated from Zhuyang Xueyuan high school majoring in design. In 1975, he entered the writing and Research Character Design Department of phototypesetting Co., Ltd. in 1998, he entered fontworks Co., Ltd. and developed a number of character libraries such as Zhuzi font.
He won the 2017 "good design award" for his "Tsutsu purple style" and the 2018 type design award of the Tokyo TDC Award for his "Tsutsu purple style". Zhuzi font has become one of the necessary fonts for book designers and art printing designers. The latest font, Zhuzi antique series, is a traditional Ming Dynasty style, black and modern design, which gives the audience a fresh feeling and improves the value of Zhuzi font.
Wang Min (China) deputy director of Academic Committee of Central Academy of Fine Arts

Deputy director of the academic committee of the Central Academy of fine arts, former president of the school of design of the Central Academy of fine arts, distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholars, executive director of AgI and chairman of China. He used to be a professor in the school of design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the image and landscape art director of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games. Yue Xin (China), artistic director of Beijing Yuanlong Yatu
brief introduction

He often receives design consulting from well-known companies in typesetting and font design, and is a recognized expert in typesetting and font design. Jos é Scaglione (Argentina) co founder of typetogether

Jos é Scaglione is a font designer, writer and lecturer. Together with Veronika Burian, he is the founder of typetogether, an independent font manufacturer. He has designed and published many award-winning font family products. He teaches font design and typesetting at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and is often invited to international famous font conferences and academic institutions as a speaker and workshop leader on font design and typesetting. Jos é co authored how to create fonts: from sketches to screens, readability and typesetting, text composition, and collaborated with Jorge de buen Unna to write an introduction to font typesetting. In 2012, Jos é served as letter 2 president of the font design competition and conference. From 2013 to 2017, he was appointed president of the international character design association (atypi).
Zhang Kobayashi (Japan) Mona font design director
brief introduction
In 1983, he began to design Phototypesetting type (character design for phototypesetting) in Biyan company. In 1989, he went to London to study western calligraphy and typesetting. After returning to Japan in 1990, he joined the word game workshop and participated in the design and digitization of Japanese fonts hiragino Mincho and hiragino Gothic. From 1993 to 1997, he was responsible for the design of Latin part of Japanese font in typebank. From 1997 to 2001, as a freelance font designer, his original fonts won many World Awards.
In 2001, he was recruited to Germany Linotype company (now merged into monotype company) as the font design director, responsible for the production supervision and quality control of font design. He also worked with Adrian frutiger, Hermann Zapf and other well-known font design masters to improve a number of famous font works, and was also responsible for the design of enterprise customized fonts and individual original fonts.
He is the author of not thinking about font type, Western Script: background knowledge and use method of font, Owen font 2: Classic font and expression method, which are widely praised by designers and font lovers in China.

Phoenix is an American editor of Jiangsu Science and Technology Press, and a master's supervisor of the school of design of Nanjing Institute of art. Over the years, he has been committed to the practice, research and promotion of graphic design in all fields. His personal design works have won awards or been selected in almost all important graphic design competitions and exhibitions around the world. This competition is composed of the above 15 judges. The jury will make the most authoritative judgment in the judging process. It is not guaranteed that there will be an original number of winning works in each category.

Eligibility
1. Any design institution, group or individual can sign up;
2. The contestant must be the creator or creative director of the work;
3. The participants in the font design - Chinese student group must be college students and graduate students (before the deadline).
Rules
A font design class
1. All entries must be original works created after March 1, 2020. Previous "founder Award" entries, winning works in other font special competitions and published works will not be accepted. The organizer reserves the right of interpretation.
2. Works with deformation, shadow and other effects on the basis of existing computer font are not accepted.
3. The work must be pure black and white manuscript, and gray or color manuscript is not acceptable.
4. The Chinese font shall be designed with standardized simplified characters instead of traditional characters.
5. Design in strict accordance with the "entry template" of the "font design category" of the 11th founder Award "design competition, and prepare the work file with reference to the" upload file example ".
6. No words or marks other than the contents of the competition shall appear on the entries.
B font application class
1. All entries must be original works created between March 1, 2020 and February 28, 2022.
2. All entries must use the existing font in the founder font library, or the original font (not the existing font library) of the participant, and take the above font as the visual subject.
3. All font application entries shall not have infringement problems such as pictures and fonts.
4. Commercial design works or public welfare design works entrusted by customers shall be licensed by customers.
5. The founder font used in the creation process can be obtained from the official website of the founder font library, the "word plus" computer client and other formal channels.

2. "Font application category" includes all kinds of entries except RGB category. After being shortlisted, it is also required to provide physical works as required;
